The Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs officially revealed the structure of the two primary army corps-sized formations within the National Guard of Ukraine on April 18, 2025. In a statement shared via its official channels, the Ministry detailed the composition of both the 1st Azov Corps and the newly disclosed 2nd Khartia Corps.
As early as March 15, 2025, MilitaryLand reported that the Khartia Brigade would serve as the foundation for a new corps-level formation, with its commander, Obolenskyi, appointed to lead the newly established unit. This formation, officially named the 2nd Khartia Corps, continues the numerical sequence set by the previously unveiled 1st Azov Corps.
Corps Structure
As noted earlier, the official announcement also included the composition of the new corps. The following brigades have been integrated into the 2nd Khartia Corps:
The composition of the corps comes as no surprise to most. All remaining Operational Assignment brigades not included in the Azov Corps—Spartan Brigade, Rubizh Brigade, and Khartia Brigade—are now part of the Khartia Corps. Additionally, the corps features two well-regarded combined brigades: the 17th Brigade “Raid” and the 18th Brigade “Slovyansk”.
Interestingly, the Separate Artillery Brigade has not been assigned to either of the newly formed corps. Its future role remains unclear—it may be divided, with each half allocated to one of the corps, or it might continue to operate independently, providing support where needed, much like it does currently.
The rest
The remaining National Guard units are set to undergo restructuring. High-performing teams may be expanded and integrated into units within the newly established corps. The rest will revert to their original National Guard roles—guarding critical infrastructure, maintaining public order, and countering illegal paramilitary groups. Some of these units may also be temporarily assigned to reinforce existing corps formations or operate independently near the frontline, depending on operational needs.
