Colonel Volodymyr Izbash, commander of the 65th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, has announced his departure from the position via the unit’s official social media channels. Having taken command in 2024, Colonel Izbash led the brigade through a period of strong performance in the defense of Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Under his leadership, the brigade earned recognition as one of the top 20 most effective units in Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
“I consider the greatest achievement to be that we have learned how to protect our soldiers—they are the most valuable “gold reserve” of our Army. In this short time, we have opened two of our own recruitment centers, which are now bringing in motivated fighters who are psychologically prepared to carry out their duties in the assigned zone. We have properly organized rest for our servicemen after combat rotations, and their heroism is now being duly recognized at the national level,” says the now former commander.
Higher command has appointed Colonel Izbash to a new role within the Defense Forces, and rumors suggest he may soon assume command of one of the army corps. Who will take charge of the brigade after him has not been announced.
