162nd Mechanized Brigade Officially Revealed

In November 2024, we reported on the formation of two new brigades within the Ukrainian Ground Forces. Volunteers on the LobbyX recruitment platform revealed this, which included the 161st and 162nd Mechanized Brigades as part of the 160-series of brigades.

Little information has been revealed about both units; however, what is known is that they are still undergoing the formation of recruitment and training.

Recently, it was discovered by our contributors that the 162nd Mechanized Brigade has received its insignia after many months of waiting. It appears here for the first time exclusively on MilitaryLand, redrawn by Davomme.

The insignia appears slightly different from the rest of the Ground Forces emblems, with the motto tab attached directly to the shield rather than separately. The shield’s canvas color is a fuscous gray with a gray border, divided into three segments with a point in the center of the shield. Other elements of the insignia include a cross with a floral pattern in its interior, alongside two curved sabers on either side.

The brigade also received a motto, which is visible at the top of the insignia, being “Officum Vocat” – translating to “Duty Calls” in English. The insignia is generally surprising given it deviates heavily from the rest of the 150 and 160-series of brigade insignias, with its muted collars and repetitive nature of symbol choices being reminiscent of the new 155th, 157th and 159th Mechanized Brigade insignias.

There still remains little to no information on these brigades, particularly that of the 161st Mechanized Brigade, falling silent since it was discovered by our contributors in late October and early November 2024. We will continue to report on the formation of these new brigades, including the newly formed 160th Mechanized Brigade as part of the Ukrainian Legion – an initiative to recruit Ukrainians in Poland who had left the war, which we also reported on.
